Bocote

Common Name: Bocote Botanical Classification: Cordia gerascanthus Family: Boragin aceae Tree is Native To: Bocote grows throughout the West Indies, tropical America, Mexico, Belize and Honduras. Characteristics: Bocote’s heartwood is rich, golden brown with a pinkish tint, often showing veregated irregular markings and an attractive ray fleck figure when quartersawn. Bocote has a straight grain with a medium coarse texture. The wood is hard and heavy and of medium strength. This lustrous wood is simply "breathtaking". Average Dried Weight: 48-65 lb/ft3 Average Specific Gravity: .63-.84 Working Properties: Bocote works easily with hand and machine tools. Predrill for fasteners. Bocote polishes to a smooth finish and takes glue well. This wood is a pleasure to work with. Common Uses: Bocote is extremely sought after for turnery, furniture, inlays, joinery, cabinet work, tool handles and veneers.
